Kostroma Railway Station is called “Kostroma Novaya”. Kostroma has got several regular communications: 1. Moscow (all trains from Kostroma arrive at the Moscow’s Railway station “Yaroslavskiy”, the underground station “Komsomol’skaya”).
2. Kostroma is situated along the Trans-Siberian Railway. From here moving by train you can reach the very Eastern points of Russia – Vladivostok and Khabarovsk. Moving to the west by these trains you may reach Moscow also.

The airport “Sokerkino” carries out passenger and cargo transportation within neighboring regions. The regular communications are established with St. Petersburg, Moscow, Anapa and other cities.

You can take the northeastern direction of the federal motor road Moscow-Kholmogory (M-8) to travel from Moscow to Kostroma. Once you have reached the Yaroslavl, please take right and move along the motor road A-113. The distance of 330 kilometers will take about 6 hours of travel. The road passes through the ancient Russian towns of Pereslavl-Zalesskiy and Rostov.
There are bus trips daily to/from Moscow’s Shchyolkovsky bus station (underground railway station “Shchyolkovskaya”), plus you can take buses stopping in transit. Most of these stop at Pereslavl-Zalessky and Yaroslavl.
There are also daily trips to/from St. Petersburg, Vladimir, Ivanovo, Kazan’, Yaroslavl, Rybinsk, Nizhny Novgorod and others.

In summer from the river station there is a range of passenger services on the Volga to places as distant as Astrakhan. From about early June to early October, long–distance Volga passenger ships stop in Kostroma every couple of days on their way between Moscow and cities like Nizhny Novgorod, Kazan and Astrakhan. Cruise ships like Dmitry Pozharksy, George Zhukov, Alexander Suvorov, Michael Frunze and others are presented.
